Paul Bambrough
Musician & Teacher

Despite little in the way of formal training at the piano Paul has had a successful career as an accompanist and chamber musician. He has had the good fortune to have worked with some of the world’s most distinguished singers including “The Three Tenors”, Sir Williard White, Sarah Walker and the late Philip Langridge as well as with many instrumentalists and in various chamber ensembles. As an organist he has played at many cathedrals and important churches and has made a number of broadcasts for BBC radio and television. More recently he has gained a reputation as a fine harpsichordist and has given numerous performances of Bach’s monumental “Goldberg Variations”, many solo recitals and an acclaimed project “English Suites, Old and New” in which he premiered four new works for Harpsichord alongside the Suites of Henry Purcell.
Paul conducted his first opera at the age of 13 having formed an opera company for the purpose and this led to a life-long passion for directing vocal music. He has conducted all of the large scale choral works (some, multiple times!) and enjoys the thrill of working with choirs large and small. He has also conducted (and directed) many operas including Carmen, Marriage of Figaro, Barber of Seville, Hansel and Gretel, Dido and Aeneas, I Pagliacci, Cavalleria Rusticana, Suor Angelica, Gianni Schicchi, Die Fledermaus, The Merry Widow as well as all of the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas (some, multiple times!!).
